Free Kindermusik Classes
for Expecting Moms
Kindermusik at The Music Village is offering free classes in Cullowhee and Waynesville to moms who are expecting a baby.
Moms-to-be will join other parents and children birth to 18 months in class for a variety of musical activities.
Why, you may ask?
- My students who attended an older sibling’s Kindermusik classes prenatally are extremely musical children, and some of them speak earlier and more clearly than other children.
- When they come to their first class after they’re born, they invariably look around in wonder, amazement and excitement as if to say, “I’ve been here before, and now I can see what I’ve been experiencing for nine months!”
- A study by psychologist Alexandra Lamont at the University of Leicester showed that one year olds recognized and showed a preference for musical pieces played to them before they were born. So children do learn before birth.
- Music is the only activity that touches every learning area of the brain—cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical and musical.
- Participation in music classes creates neural connections that last a lifetime and make learning and remembering much easier.
- The earlier those neural connections are made, the better.
What do babies experience in Kindermusik?
- Singing, dancing with parents, playing instruments such as drums, shakers and bells, social interaction with other babies, infant massage and exercises to help with coordination and reading later on.

When are the classes held?
- Tuesdays 11:30 am – 12:15 pm in Waynesville
- Wednesdays 9:30 – 10:15 am in Cullowhee
- Thursdays 5:15 – 6:00 pm in Cullowhee
When do they start and end?
- The fall semester begins August 25 and ends December 17, 2009
What happens after my baby is born?
- As soon as you feel like returning to class, your baby's first class outside the womb is free!
- If you choose to finish the semester with your baby, the tuition for the remainder of the semester will be prorated.
What about my older children?
- Onsite babysitting for siblings is now available in both locations - only $2 per class for your 1st child and $1 for your 2nd!
